There are key technical components of a film can be divided into two key categories: 

Macro Elements

Micro Elements

The term "macro" refers to two things; genre and narrative.

The term genre refers to a category of media products that are classified as being similar in form or type. 


Sub genre

A subdivision of a genre of literature, music and film. 

Narrative

Story is a sequence of events, often referred to as the plot. A narrative structure is the way those events are revealed to the audience. A linear narrative is the sequence of events are shown in chronological order. This is the most popular form of narrative structure. And finally a non-linear is the sequence of events are revealed out of the expected order, for example the pulp fiction.
